Cocktail bar: the straw is the item held longest

At a bar, the surface the brand touches longest is the straw. The glass sits on the table and the napkin goes underneath it, but the straw stays in the hand and at the mouth for the length of the drink. Print on the body is read here as nowhere else, and the decision starts with where the print area ends.

Contact time reorders the items at a bar

A cocktail is drunk over twenty minutes to half an hour and the straw is in the hand throughout. The napkin's contact is measured in seconds and the glass stays on the table. The surface where print is read most is therefore the straw body — and it is the first item to decide on.

The end that goes in the mouth is left bare

Print stays on the body and the mouth end is clear. That is not a styling preference: no ink on the surface in direct contact with the mouth is the rule itself. Because the area narrows, venues with long names settle the typography against the straw length.

A wet glass turns the napkin into a coaster

On the bar top the napkin is used to stand a glass on rather than to wipe. So the real job is absorbency and size: thick enough to hold the sweat off a cold glass, small enough not to take over the bar top. That is why 25×25 is the bar's size.

Volume peaks towards midnight

Bar consumption concentrates in the evening and at weekends, so annual need is calculated from the busy day rather than the average one. Where the cocktail list runs to long drinks, straw use can overtake napkins.

The wet wipe closes service at a bar

In bars that serve food, the wipe is the item that closes the table. A matt varnish outer does not catch the light and is often preferred for that reason; alcohol-free fragrance comes up so that it does not compete with the drink.

Frequently asked

How much print fits on a straw body?
The area depends on the straw length and the mouth end is left bare. For long brand names the typography is settled against that area; the configurator on the product page shows it alongside the length you choose.
Do bamboo straws soften when wet?
No. A cocktail can stay in the hand for half an hour, which is exactly the window where paper straws soften; bamboo holds its shape.
Which napkin size is used at a bar?
25×25 is common on the bar top, because the napkin works as a coaster there. Bars with table service also use 33×24 with a narrow fold.
